The first record we have of Position 89 is a Harmer, Rooke auction of the William Fitts estate in 1954. It next appeared on the market in the 1965 Siegel Rarities sale, where it sold to the famous stamp dealer Raymond Weill. In 1970 it appeared in a H.R. Harmer's auction, and was off the market until the 1982 Siegel Rarities sale.
Position 89 sold again in 1983 to Sam Malamud of Ideal Stamp Company. Our next record of the stamp is its offering in the 2007 auction of the Alphonse Maffeo Collection.
