Summary
Position 19s history can be traced back to Sir William Lindsay Everard, a British pioneer aviator, member of Parliament and Air Mail collector. Sir Lindsay exhibited the stamp in 1946 and 1947. He passed away in 1949 and his collection was sold at auction in 1953. Position 19 was not included in that sale, and was sold privately in about 1951. It was exhibited in 1952 by Dimitri Tziracopoulo, who exhibited it again when he won the the Grand Prix in the August 1961 FISA exhibition in the Netherlands (as reported in Air Post Journal Nov. 1961).
Dimitri Tziracopulo's collection was sold by Harmer, Rooke of London on October 1, 1965, where described as sound. Our next record of a transaction are private treaty purchases in 1984. It next appeared at auction in Siegel Sale 833 in 2000, where it was purchased by Daniel B. Curtis, who held the stamp until he passed away in 2014. It was included in Siegel's sale of the Curtis Collection in 2015.
Has backstamps from "D. Forester" and dealers G. Bolaffi '65, A. Diena and Enzo Diena (1983). Forester's identity is unknown, but his backstamp appears on several different Air Mail stamps.
