This stamp was stolen from the Miller Collection, which was on display in the New York Public Library. The theft occurred May 9, 1977.

The top perforations were trimmed to try and disguise its origin. The stamp was offered for sale several times before its recovery. It was returned to the New York Public Library on July 8, 1986.
