Summary

The unique siderographer's block from the bottom left corner of the sheet. The initials "S. De B." in the selvage stand for Samuel De Binder, who made the steel plate. The right stamps have very slightly disturbed original gum.

When the corner margin block with siderographer's initials was offered in the 25th sale of Colonel E. H . R. Green's Collection by Eugene Costales, it was purchased for $17,000 by Y. Souren. It next appeared at auction in the sale of the Henry B. Close collection of United Stales stamps held by Eugene Costales in 1952, where it was bought by Ezra Cole for $22,000 on behalf of Josiah K. Lilly. When the Lilly collection was sold by Robert A. Siegel at auction in 1968, the corner block realized $100,000, then the world record price for a philatelic item. It was bought by Raymond and Roger Weill of New Orleans and placed with a collector. It subsequently changed ownership privately on at least three occasions, before being offered in the 1991 Kobacker sale. It was purchased at the Kobacker sale by Harry Hagendorf of Columbian Stamp Co., who was acting as an agent for a west coast collector

The block was purchased in 2002 by William H. Gross as part of a transaction, facilitated by Charles and Tracy Shreve, involving three Inverted Jenny blocks.
