Summary
With left sheet margin and arrow. This block was one of the few position pieces retained by Colonel Edward H.R. Green from his purchase of the discovery sheet. It was likely broken into two part arrow pairs by Col. Green. It has been discreetly rejoined. It has slightly mount-disturbed original gum and a pinpoint thin spot in the top left stamp.
The block was purchased in the 1990 Christie's sale by a multinational consortium, who held it until the mid 1990's. It was then purchased by Harry Hagendorf of Columbian Stamp Company on behalf of a west coast collector, who consigned it a few years later to Siegel's 1999 Rarities sale. It went unsold in that auction, and was sold privately shortly afterwards to William H. Gross.
This block is currently owned by Mr. Gross. It is on temporary long-term loan to the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum.
