Description
1918. 24c carmine rose and blue. The unique block of 4 with blue plate number 8493. Positions #87-88, 97-98 in the sheet. Slight gum creases. U. R. stamp has small spot. Just about perfectly centered, probably the best centered block in existence. Last
block sold at auction (which of course did not have plate No.) brought $22,000.00 in the Close sale.
Since the first printing normal sheets had the plate numbers removed this is the only plate number block of the 24c Inverted Center in existence.
A truly gorgeous and spectacular block and one of the greatest show pieces in the entire world of philately.
