Description

24c Carmine Rose & Blue, center inverted (C3a)

positions 43-44/53-54, block of four with horizontal guide line, well-centered, fresh color and excellent impression, pristine lightly hinged original gum

This block came to light in 1933 when it was sold by New York dealer Philip Ward as agent for a New York bank to 'settle the estate of a Western collector'. The purchaser was dealer Emil Bruechig in New York who sold it to a collector who has remained anonymous. Eventually it was purchased by the Weill Brothers for their stock.

EXTREMELY FINE. A BRILLIANT AND EXCEPTIONALLY FRESH BLOCK OF FOUR OF THIS MAJOR RARITY.

Cat. $525,000.00

Note: this was sold in the same auction as the unique plate block.
