Owner Biography
Newport
The Newport name is a pseudonym used when the collection was sold in 2008.
The collection was formed mostly in the late 1960's and early 1970's with purchases from all of the major auction houses of the era as well as many prominent dealers. When he died in the late 1970's, one of his sons, with whom he had spent a few hours every Saturday studying and enjoying the collection, lovingly stored the collection for almost thirty years until he passed away.
The collection was sold at Philip Weiss Auctions in Oceanside N.Y. - this was the first major philatelic property ever offered by this general auctioneer.
