Owner Biography
Don D Price
Don David Price was born January 22, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Milton & Revella Price. The family moved to Highland Park, Illinois in September, 1941, where they lived until January 1957, when the family moved to St. Louis, Missouri.
Don graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Journalism, from Washington University, St. Louis, MO, in 1963. He then moved to New York City in the fall of 1963, and worked for Dancer, Fitzgerald, Sample -- one of the top ten Advertising Agencies -- in the Merchandising Department, designing package backs for 11 different General Mills cereals, for three years.
He then worked at Burnham & Co., as a stock broker, 1967 - 70. He worked for Democratic Presidential candidates in 1971 and 1972.
Don has been a resident of Sarasota, Florida since 1972, apart from a stint in Portugal from 2000-2010.
Don Price inherited a love of stamps, and his Inverted Jenny, from his father Milton, who passed away unexpectedly in 1961. With the exception of five stamps, his father's collection was sold at auction in 1992. Don took those five stamps -- all inverts -- and amassed his own significant stamp collection, focusing on the bicolor issues of the 1869 Pictorials, Pan-Americans, 1873 State Department Officials, the C.I.A. Invert and the 24c Air Post. His collections have been exhibited internationally, and have won several awards.
His 1869 Pictorials, Pan-Americans and Officials were sold by Siegel Auction Galleries in Sale 1118 in March 2016.
